Branding and Growth Challenge – Day 3 – Being Responsive

“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives.

It is the one that is most adaptable to change.”

This quote is widely attributed to Charles Darwin, but some investigation by scholars at Cambridge University suggest that he was paraphrased. In any case, I think it’s a valid statement, and not just regarding survival of a species. It’s true in blogging and business too – if something doesn’t work for you, then change it!

Today’s task is to look at whether my site is responsive. When I was about to start blogging, and was looking for a theme, I didn’t know what this meant! In in this case it means “Does the site layout adapt to different devices?” So, do things move around and resize so they can be viewed easily on mobile devices? I use Yoko, and it is responsive, although I just got lucky when I picked it, because it wasn’t on my radar of “Things That Are Important” at the time.

I’ve been looking at other themes today, as there are a couple of things I’d like to change. One is that I’d like my “Recipe” page to have more of a magazine look, with bigger images and multiple columns. Two is that I’d like the main page with all my blog posts on to have two columns, with an image on one side and the start of the text on the other. It seems that Yoko can have columns, but I think it needs some code adding, and I’ve decided it’s not a good use of my time to fiddle with this, when there are soooo many other things I want to do! So this site is staying as it it! For now… FFx
